AN IDEA, NOT A DONE DEAL.

This is an independent, resident-led proposal. No site, funding or construction has been agreed.

01 / THE IDEA

FIRST LAP?
FIFTIETH LAP?
COME RIDE.

A pump track is a loop of smooth rollers and banked turns. Riders build momentum by moving their bodies, rather than relying on pedalling or pushing.

You don’t need to be an expert, or even a cyclist. The ambition is a free outdoor track for all ages and abilities, from children taking their first laps to adults and experienced riders developing their skills. All wheeled sports are welcome: bikes, scooters, skateboards, skates, wheelchairs and more. Start at your own pace, build confidence and come back for another lap.

01

All ages welcome

Children, teenagers, parents and grandparents. A place for different generations to enjoy being active together.

02

Beginner to expert

Take your first gentle laps or work on your technique. A well-designed track offers progression as confidence and skills grow.

03

Fitness that feels like fun

Pumping works the whole body, building balance, coordination and core strength. Ride at your own pace or make it a workout.

04

All wheeled sports welcome

Bikes, balance bikes, scooters, skateboards, skates, wheelchairs and more. Whatever your wheels, the ambition is a shared place to find your flow. Inclusive access and safe shared use would be part of the design.

05

Swap screens for fresh air

A reason to put the screens down, get outside and try something new. Learn practical skills, build confidence and enjoy being active in the fresh air.

06

Bring Chesham together

Meet people, make friends and learn from each other. A welcoming local space where different ages and abilities can connect, encourage one another and feel part of the community.

02 / A POSSIBILITY FOR OUR PARK

Part of a
bigger picture.

The 2023 Lowndes Park Strategic Masterplan includes a pump track in its “Move” zone (page 16) and a wider sports hub near the Park Road entrance (page 27).

This campaign explores whether that idea can move forward. The former skatepark area is a possible location, subject to assessment, council agreement and consultation.

The suggested delivery sequence places the pump track in a later phase (page 32). The document describes a strategic vision, not a detailed design or funding commitment. Any proposal would need to be discussed alongside the park’s other priorities. This campaign is independent of Chesham Town Council, Friends of Lowndes Park and Love Lowndes.

THE SPARK

MORE THAN A TRACK.
A PLACE TO BELONG.

A place to step away from screens, get some fresh air and spend time together. Whether you’re learning a new skill, meeting friends or cheering someone through their first lap, a pump track could bring a new kind of energy to our community.

The photograph shows how rollers, banked turns and grassy islands can come together to create an outdoor riding space. It’s an example of an existing track, not a design for Lowndes Park. We’d like to explore what could work here, shaped by the site and what Chesham needs.

The space needs to be assessed before its suitability can be confirmed. The layout, budget and delivery approach would be developed with the council and community. No contractor has been selected.

A FEW FAIR QUESTIONS

Before you ask.

Who could use the track?+

All wheeled sports are welcome. The ambition is a track for all ages and abilities, from beginners to experienced riders on bikes, balance bikes, scooters, skateboards, skates, wheelchairs and more. Wheelchair access and riding would need to be considered from the start, including approach paths, gradients, track layout and how riders share the space. The final design would determine suitability for different users and equipment.

Is it good exercise?+

Yes. Generating momentum through body movement makes riding a pump track an active, full-body challenge. It develops balance, coordination and core strength, with the option to ride gently or build up the effort as skills improve.

Is this definitely happening?+

No. We are testing local interest and exploring feasibility. Council agreement, a suitable site, a workable budget and funding would all be needed.

How much would it cost?+

Early indicative estimates suggest £129,000-£159,000 for design and build of a track on a similar scale to the example pictured. No contractor has been selected. This is preliminary, not a quotation or confirmed total project budget. VAT, site work, wider facilities and ongoing costs need clarifying.

Are you collecting donations?+

No. We are gathering views and offers of help. There is no fundraising appeal on this page.

What about noise, safety and nearby residents?+

These are important parts of assessing whether a track would work here. Please explain any concerns in the form so they can inform discussions and any future proposal.

Is this connected to Love Lowndes?+

This is a separate resident-led initiative, intended to complement improvements to the park. It does not represent Love Lowndes, Friends of Lowndes Park or the council.

What happens to my feedback?+

The campaign organiser will review responses to understand local demand and concerns. Anonymised themes and totals may be shared in project discussions. Contact details and individual responses will not be displayed publicly.
